Riders have always asked, pleaded and maybe even begged and Maxxis has finally answered. For the first time on the market, a limited production of the Aspen ST, a 170 TPI version of the renowned traditional Aspen tire. Until now, these tires were reserved only for the top Maxxis-equipped professional teams. The Aspen ST is an ultra-low profile racing tire, designed primarily for Short Track XC use, although some athletes opt for the 29×2.25 size also on their gravel bikes. Sometimes referred to as “Fastpen”, this tire is sure to give any rider an advantage in dry and grassy conditions. It is not recommended for more technical tracks or mixed weather conditions due to the narrow tread profile. The team-spec Aspen uses the same tread as the standard model, but is lighter thanks to 170 TPI, faster and more elastic.
All team-specific tires feature EXO shoulder protection and tubeless ready casing. However, it is important to underline that these tires are primarily intended for racing in suitable environments and conditions. The trade-off for weight savings and low rolling resistance of the 170 TPI casing results in shorter tire life than our standard 120 TPI. We recommend keeping this in mind when advising riders which product best suits their needs. The new Aspen and Aspen ST covers will carry a special “Team Spec” patch on the shoulder to differentiate them from the standard versions available on the market today.
